Vermont Dinners.

Vermont Dinners is a daring experiment in action. In the face of overwhelmingly stiff competition, Vermont Dinners was saying yes to mere hours old picked produce, vegan and gluten-free diets, and a resounding yes to local farmers. They put a healthy vegetable-leaning twist on comfort foods, packaged it all up in the convenience of a frozen dinner, and provide farmers an alternative to grocery stores and farmers markets.

The Challenge:

Vermont Dinners needed to elevate their brand to get noticed in a nearly $1B frozen dinner category. Vermont Dinners came to Rival Brands because the goals in front of them seemed virtually unattainable. It was our job to cut through the visual and messaging barrier of the frozen food isle and help connect the dots between what Vermont Dinners offers and its customers needs to gain attention and loyalty in the highly contested frozen dinner category.

The Solution:

There were key ideas that had to make their way to the forefront of the Vermont Dinners message. “Convenient and delicious” are baseline expectations for any product in the category. Vermont Dinners’ provides frozen-fresh produce in the form of a re-imagined comfort food dinner and hits the gluten-free, vegan and organic check boxes at the same time. We coined the taglines, “Your Frozen Farmer’s Market” and Deliciously Quick. Powerfully Local.” to spearhead the charge into the minds of the consumer and wrapped it all up in a playful and inviting visual aimed at garnering mass market appeal for a niche product.

The Results:

The new packaging and messaging provided Vermont Dinners with a new lease on their existing shelf space in the frozen isle and a means to create new opportunities where once doors were closed.
